IRAN EXTENDS THE PRISON SENTENCE OF NARGES MOHAMMADI

Iran extends Nobel Peace Prize winner’s prison sentence by 15 months for allegedly spreading propaganda against the Islamic Republic. The verdict from the Iranian court also includes a two-year ban on travelling abroad, membership in political and social groups, and having a mobile phone.

Narges Mohammadi, the Nobel laureate, has already spent 12 years in jail serving multiple sentences.

Her family condemned the verdict, saying this was her fifth conviction since March 2021. She has been arrested 13 times and sentenced to a total of 31 years in prison. Mohammadi won the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize “for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran”.
