A retired postman named Rodney Holbrook from Builth Wells, Powys, in Wales, discovered a mouse tidying up his shed every night.
Holbrook noticed that items from the previous night had been mysteriously tidied up. He set up a night vision camera on his workbench and captured footage of a mouse picking up various objects such as clothes pegs, corks, nuts, and bolts.
The mouse, which Holbrook nicknamed the “Welsh Tidy Mouse”, has been carrying out this tidying ritual for two months. Holbrook believes the mouse is using the objects to hide away nuts.
This isn’t the first time Holbrook has encountered such a phenomenon. In 2019, while living in Bristol, he helped a friend set up a night camera when another mouse was keeping their shed in order.
Scientists have suggested that this could be an unusual form of nesting behavior, or the mouse might be tidying for fun. However, the exact reason behind this behavior is still up for debate
