BORDER ISSUES – TEXAS AMBULANCE WORKERS

Ambulance workers in Texas have not made a specific collective statement about the border situation. However, there have been reports and discussions about the challenges faced by law enforcement and medical personnel in border areas, particularly in relation to Operation Lone Star, which is a state initiative to secure the border and address the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into Texas.

The situation at the border is complex and has led to various responses from different stakeholders. For example, there have been concerns raised about the treatment of migrants, with reports of state troopers being instructed to push children into the Rio Grande and deny migrants water in extreme heat, as per an email sent by a state employee expressing concern over these actions.

These reports highlight the difficult circumstances and moral dilemmas that those working on the front lines, including ambulance workers, may encounter.

The ongoing legal and political discussions around the border will likely continue to impact those working in emergency services in the region.
