THE BRITISH BOY GONE MISSING FOR 6 YEARS FOUND IN FRANCE

0

Alex Batty, a British boy who went missing six years ago, was found in France. Alex, from Oldham, was under the guardianship of his grandmother Susan Caruana when he failed to return from a holiday in Spain with his mother and grandfather in September 2017.

Alex was found near Toulouse, France, by a delivery driver who spotted him walking through rain. He used the motorist’s phone to message his grandmother in the UK, saying “I love you, I want to come home”.

The now 17 year old spoke to his grandmother via video call, and she was sure it was him. Formal identification has confirmed that the teenager who turned up alone in France is indeed Alex Batty.

Alex had been living in the remote Pyrenean valleys, travelling about from place to place in a kind of itinerant commune. The area in the foothills of the Pyrenees is known for attracting people in search of alternative lifestyles. He was indeed loving it there but not quiet as home.

His mother Melanie Batty and grandfather David Batty, who do not have parental guardianship of Alex, have not been located but remain wanted in connection with his disappearance. His grandmother believed they had taken him to live with a spiritual community in Morocco. The exact circumstances of his disappearance and his life over the past six years are still being investigate.

A RETIRED POSTMAN’S UNEXPECTED CLEANER

0

A retired postman named Rodney Holbrook from Builth Wells, Powys, in Wales, discovered a mouse tidying up his shed every night.

Holbrook noticed that items from the previous night had been mysteriously tidied up. He set up a night vision camera on his workbench and captured footage of a mouse picking up various objects such as clothes pegs, corks, nuts, and bolts.

The mouse, which Holbrook nicknamed the “Welsh Tidy Mouse”, has been carrying out this tidying ritual for two months. Holbrook believes the mouse is using the objects to hide away nuts.

This isn’t the first time Holbrook has encountered such a phenomenon. In 2019, while living in Bristol, he helped a friend set up a night camera when another mouse was keeping their shed in order.

Scientists have suggested that this could be an unusual form of nesting behavior, or the mouse might be tidying for fun. However, the exact reason behind this behavior is still up for debate

NIGERIA SEIZE AND DESTROY ELEPHANT TUSKS WORTH $11.2 MILLION

0

The Nigerian Government recently seized and destroyed 2.5 tons of elephant tusks valued at over $11.2 million. The purpose of this initiative aims to protect the dwindling elephant population by sending a strong message against illegal wildlife trafficking in Nigeria. Also the destroyed ivory will now be pulverized into a powder, which will be used to build a monument symbolizing the importance of elephants and Nigeria’s determination to protect them.

Nigeria has become a hub for illegal ivory sales, with tusks smuggled in from all over the continent. Thousands of elephants are killed each year for their tusks despite a 1989 ban on the trade of ivory by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

This action is part of Nigeria’s increased efforts to counter smuggling and illegal wildlife trade.

Pope Francis wants surrogacy an act of arrangement, often supported by a legal agreement, whereby a woman agrees to delivery/labour on behalf of another couple or person, who will become the child’s parent(s) after birth. People may seek a surrogacy arrangement when they are unable to carry a pregnancy themselves, for medical or personal reasons.

The Pope has called for a global ban on surrogacy, which he considers a “deplorable” and “despicable” practice that violates the dignity of women and children. He has also criticized the “commercialization” of pregnancy and the exploitation of the mother’s material needs.

He has urged the international community to prohibit this practice universally.
The legality and cost of surrogacy varies widely between jurisdictions, sometimes resulting in problematic international or interstate surrogacy arrangements.

Couples seeking a surrogacy arrangement in a country where it is banned sometimes travel to a jurisdiction that permits it. In some countries, surrogacy is legal only if money is not exchanged..

The main candidates are:

1. Lai Ching-te from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), who supports maintaining Taiwan’s de facto independence and strengthening ties with the United States and other democracies. He is the current vice President and former premier of Taiwan

2. Hou Yu-ih from the Kuomintang (KMT), who advocates for closer dialogue and cooperation with China, based on the “1992 Consensus” that both sides acknowledge there is only one China, but agree to disagree on its definition. He is the incumbent mayor of New Taipei City and a former police chief

3.Ko Wen-je from the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP), who seeks a middle ground between the DPP and the KMT, and proposes a pragmatic and flexible approach to cross-strait relations. He is the leader of the TPP and a former mayor of Taipei
Young voters, who make up about one-third of the electorate, are expected to play a key role in the election outcome.

However, China’s threats are not the only thing on their mind as they head to the polls. Many young voters are also concerned about domestic issues such as the cost of living, housing prices, social welfare, environmental protection, and LGBTQ+ rights.
