Ball bearing technology

0

A ball bearing is a round rolling element that uses balls to maintain space between bearing races thus they are used in machines that involve moving parts or have moving as their main work to help reduce friction and work smoothly as they operate. Some materials from which bearings are made are white metals, Bronze, Copper-lead alloy, cast iron, Silver, Aluminum alloy, porous metal, Non-metallic materials.

A ball bearing’s main purpose is to:

  • Reduce friction during movement in order to increase the efficiency of a machine
  • Support radial and axial loads through the usage of two races to contain the balls and transmit the loads through the balls

Properties of ball bearings:

For a bearing to work effectively, it should have some desired properties or required standards and they are:

  • High compressive & fatigue strength – Since pressure is exerted on a bearing in the machine it operates, it should have the ability to withstand a lot of pressure without breaking down easily
  • The ability to form strong bonds with other materials or steel
  • High corrosion resistance – As lubricants are applied to bearings for a better work result, high temperature causes rust hence causing the production of acidic fluids and if bearings are not highly resistant to corrosion, they would break down easily
  • A good quality bearing should be able to conform even after high heat temperature has been applied to it for a good period of time before it breaks down completely
  • A bearing should have the feature of being able to contain dust in lubricating oil

Health benefits of the sun

0

Many of us have heard about the side effects of direct sunlight on our skin and especially the discomfort and burns it brings on much sunny days. However, the sunlight has proven to be very good for our health.

You may also be wondering how much of direct sunlight to our skin is enough for us each day. The truth is that as humans, coming into direct contact with the sun of about 15 minutes is good enough. However, persons with darker skin complexions may have to enjoy about 50 minutes of being under the sun as they have more melanin and that makes it quite longer for them to get enough of the required sunlight unlike persons with fair skin complexions.

We may sometimes or always have busy schedules that might be preventing us from coming into contact with the sun but here are some easy and smart ways to achieve this requirement each day.

  • Take a walk during launch time

  • Schedule outdoor meetings regularly

  • Exercise regularly

  • Engage in gardening on weekends

Find below some additional benefits of sunlight to our skin

  1. Sunshine vitamin also known as vitamin D helps the body to absorb calcium which is essential for done health and helps to prevent health conditions like osteoporosis and osteopenia hence preventing bone fractures. besides, sunshine vitamin also enables your body to make vitamin D from cholesterol in the skin cells

  1. Helps maintain a good circadian rhythm helping you fall asleep at night when there is darkness and wake up in the morning when there is light

PNC urges government to revive death penalty

0

The People’s National Convention (PNC) urges government to resuscitate the death penalty punishment which has been in the country’s laws but not functional.

The group says the law should be applied on ritual murderers.

“The PNC believes that the only way to stop these ritual murders is for the government to revive the Death Penalty punishment which is still in our books to save women and children and also deter others from following the same path,” the party said in a statement on Sunday, September 25.

“Ritual murderers staying in condemn prison would only end up causing financial loss to the country,” the statement signed by General Secretary Janet Asana Nabla said.

“It is time we consider registering all persons who claim they are ‘traditional doctors’ with powers to heal or ease people’s difficulties be it financial or spiritual. By so doing, their activities could be monitored.”

This comes after several cases of ritual murder have been recorded in the country with the recent one being in Mankessim, where a nursing student was buried by a chief and a pastor in a room.

The PNC added that government must order the National communications Authority (NCA) to ban all TV programmes that advertise ritual money.

“Generally, television programs that contain scenes that seek to encourage ritual killings must be banned from showing on national television e.g Kumawood and Nollywood movies.”
