FIRE BREAKS OUT IN PARTS OF KANTAMANTO MARKET

Fire has razed down parts of the popular Kantamanto Market in the Central Business District of Accra, leading to loss of properties worth millions of Ghana Cedis.

The cause of the fire, which is said to have started in the late hours of Tuesday is yet to be established.

According to eyewitnesses, the Fire Service has been trying to douse the fire since 11pm Tuesday.

A few of the traders managed to salvage some of their wares in the cause of the melee before their stalls were burnt to ashes. “I’m a widow, I don’t have anything. Now I don’t know how to survive. All my belongings are gone,” one of the traumatised traders told Asaase News’ Karen Dodoo at the scene.

On 28 November a similar fire incident occurred near the market destroying parts of the GCB Bank’s Liberty House branch.
