FIRST BLACK COMPUTING PROFESSOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHAMPTON IS A KNUST ALUMNI

Michael Opoku Agyeman is a Ghanaian computer engineer and academic who became the first black and youngest professor of Computer Science and Computing at the University of Northampton, UK.

He graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2008. He then pursued his master’s and PhD degrees in the UK, and worked as a research fellow at the Chinese University of Hong Kong1. He is also a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of Higher Education Academy, and a Senior Member of IEEE.

Michael has published over 70 papers in various journals and conferences, and has received several awards for his research on high-performance computing, embedded systems, smart rehabilitation, neuromarketing, and pedagogy.

He is also the founder of the SmartWorld initiative, which aims to use technology to solve problems in developing countries. He is passionate about teaching and inspiring the next generation of computer engineers and scientists.
