THE BLACK STARS FAIL TO SHINE AGAINST THE PHARAOHS OF EGYPT

The Black Stars of Ghana played against the Pharaohs of Egypt in their second match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday, January 18, 2024. The match ended in a 2-2 draw. Mohammed Kudus was the star of the show for Ghana, scoring a brilliant brace with two powerful shots from outside the box. He opened the scoring in the injury time of the first half, and restored Ghana’s lead in the 71st minute after Omar Marmoush had equalized for Egypt.

However, Ghana could not hold on to their advantage, as Mostafa Mohamed leveled the score again in the 74th minute with a close-range finish. Ghana had a chance to win the game in the stoppage time, but Iddrisu Baba missed a header from a corner. The result leaves both teams winless after two matches and will need to win in their final game to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages. Ghana plays Mozambique in the last group match whiles Egypt faces Cape Verde.

Egypt lost their star performer and captain Mohammed Salah due to injury in the game against Ghana.
