The United States has condemned Iran’s recent missile strikes near Iraq’s northern city of Irbil. These strikes were described as a reckless and imprecise set of strikes by Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council. The US emphasized its support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Iraq. Fortunately, no US personnel or facilities were targeted in these attacks.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed that they destroyed an Israeli spy headquarters in northern Iraq using ballistic missiles. However, this incident is believed to have nothing to do with Israel and everything to do with the ongoing US-Iran tension. The situation in the region has been escalating, involving Iran’s allies from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.
In response to the attack, Iraqi Kurdish Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned it as a “crime against the Kurdish people.” The strikes resulted in the loss of civilian lives, including that of a prominent businessman, Peshraw Dizayee. Additionally, the Revolutionary Guards stated that they also targeted Islamic State (IS) group positions in Syria as part of their retaliation
