The US Defense is saying that it will continue to conduct defensive strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, as long as the rebels pose a threat to international shipping and regional stability. The US has carried out four rounds of strikes on Houthi missiles, radars and drones since Jan, 11, 2024, in response to the group’s attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The US has also designated the Houthis as “global terrorists”, reversing a previous decision by the Biden administration. The US says the strikes are intended to protect its personnel and the free flow of international commerce in one of the world’s most critical waterways.
