WE WON TECHIMAN BY 293 VOTES GAP – MINORITY IN PARLIAMENT

The Minority caucus in parliament insists that its parliamentary candidate, Christopher Bayere Baasongti is the legitimate winner of the Techiman South constituency seat in the just-ended parliamentary elections. The party says it won that election by 293 votes.

Although the Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, the winner, the NDC said the Commission’s declaration is flawed and illegal.

According to the NDC minority members, there was no collation of results and so the EC’s announcement of the NPP candidate is victor threatens Ghana’s enviable democracy hence its rejection of the results.

The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu at a press conference on Tuesday to present pink sheets from each polling station in the constituency as basis for its insistence that it won the seat accused the government of “working to deny the NDC a parliamentary majority.”

According to the party, data available to them indicates that the NDC secured 50,306 votes against the NPP’s 50,013 with 919 rejected ballots.

According to the opposition party, the 293 vote margin makes Christopher Bayere the winner of the parliamentary elections.

“Let anybody from any media house share with me their evidence of a copy of certified collated results for Techiman South Parliamentary Sheet. This is shameful to the EC of Ghana. You conduct elections and two weeks into it, neither the candidate nor his representatives or the NDC as an interested party can boast of an official copy of the outcome of that election,” he said at the press conference.

Haruna Iddrisu further demanded a summary of the poll from the EC.

The NDC MPs have already threatened to boycott the inauguration of President Akufo-Addo for a second term if the EC does not collate of the parliamentary results in Techiman South in its presence.
