A belt drive is a flexible rubber coil that is used to connect two or more rotating machines in a parallel form. They are often used as a medium for the transmission of energy for machines.
- Round belt
Round belts mainly fit into U or V-shaped channels or columns in machines. They have a round cross – section that makes them suitable in industrial conveyors, packaging machines, shafts, photocopiers, printers and many more.
They are more suitable in instances where they need to be twisted and turned for multiple work result. They come in different sizes and texture, durable and easy to clean.
2. Flat belt
They are the most common industrial belts used in most industries. They are flat and rectangular which allows them to lay flat of machines they have been mounted on. They are mostly used in industrial fans, sawmills, water pumps, compressors amongst others.
3. V belt
These types of belts are able to transmit greater energy because of their design. Their V-shape cross section allows them to fit well on machines they have been mounted on and preventing shifts during movement hence are able to produce much work results.
They are used in milling machines, drills and power tools
4. Link belt
As the name depicts, a link belt has a lot of individual links making it possible for one to be able to shorten or increase the length by removing some of the links or by adding extra for a desired work purpose.
Their speed level during operation is normal and do not require special pulleys to function making they easy to install
5. Timing belt
Timing belts are used on vehicle engines, allowing them to operate properly. They facilitate the movement of an engine system where they contribute to the opening and closing of an engine system as expected.
Timing belts need to be changed regularly to prevent damages or breakdown of cars.
The teeth of the belt are meant to grip and move smoothly but can cause more clicking sounds when damaged or can affect the speed of an affected car.
6. Power transmission belts
The SPC belts are made from rubber and purposely designed for industrial machines for high-speed performance and efficiency. They are used in industrial machines in the following areas; power generation industry, construction, water, mills, cement. Blowers, generators and many more.
SPB belts are also used in the same industry just as SPC. However, the difference between the two is that SPB is made of gray cast iron while the SPC is made from rubber.
