The Electoral Commission (EC) has reiterated its declaration of Nana Akufo-Addo as the winner of the 2020 presidential elections.
This comes on the back of a video purportedly showing the EC chairperson, Jean Mensa, announcing the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the elections.
The commission in a statement on Tuesday December 22 indicated that the video is “doctored and not a true reflection of what was declared.”
It emphasized that Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party obtained more than the constitutionally required 50% plus one valid votes cast to be declared president and the results of the polls have been duly gazetted.
“The Commission will like to reiterate that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the President-Elect of the 2020 Presidential Election having obtained more than fifty percent of the total number of valid votes cast as enshrined in Article 63:3 of the 1992 Constitution. This declaration has subsequently been gazetted by the Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL),” it stated.
