MATHEW KOJO NJOURKONE: ASIEDU NKETIA OWES GHANAIANS NO APOLOGY

0

Mathew Kojo Njourkone, the former Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of NDC has condemned the demand for an apology from Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, over the 2020 election petition

According to the former secretary, the demand for apology from the NPP is unnecessary and would rather encourage the NPP to apologise to Ghanaians for shielding Madam Jean Mensa, the Electoral Commission Chair, from giving evidence as to what really happened during the 2020 elections.

“The NPP must also apologise to Ghanaians for taking over from the NDC a healthy economy and sending it to a comatose state where subsequently not a single Ghanaian will be permitted for employment in the public sector in 2023 under an IMF conditionality,” he said in an interview.

“Matters of this nature are the serious bread and butter issues that ought to engage our attention.”

“I wish to use this opportunity to give reminder to our cherished delegates that as the election is getting closer the detractors of the NDC party will deliberately create baseless stories against our impeccable General and hype such falsehoods just to cause disaffection.

“Hon Johnson Asiedu Nketiah remains focused for victory and I humbly appeal to delegates to be resolute in support for him.”

GENERAL MAHAMAT DEBY – POLITICAL STATE OF CHAD

0

Earlier last year in April 2021 the then president of Chad, Idriss Deby was killed after attempting to visit troops threatening his 30-year serving government.

After the demise of Idriss Deby, his son General Mahamat Deby was replaced in his father’s position to serve for the remaining 18 months ahead of elections for a new ruler which he would not have the opportunity to contest for a presidency position.

October 20 was the end of the 18-month period for General Mahamat after which he announced a national dialogue with opposition parties to work on a constitutional frame for a new government. The meeting which began August 20 excluded key actors like Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT) rebel group and Wakit Tama.

The Transitional Military Council headed by General Mahamat Deby was dissolved after the meeting and stated that elections would be held after two years with Mahamat remaining president whilst Saleh Kebzado, a former opposition member being the prime minister.

This new arrangement did not end up well with citizens as they took to the street to protest against the government. They built barriers on roads and burnt tyres while their security forces trying to calm the situation fired tear gas and live ammunition.

It is alleged that about 50 people have been killed and some 300 persons injured.

The government declared a state of emergency in N’Djamena the capital city and some other two southern cities, Moundou and Koumra in order to help manage the situation.

More than 200 people in connection with the riot were arrested but as at now about 139 people have been granted bail and have returned to their families
