The royal wedding of the Prince of Brunei Abdul Mateen was a grand affair that lasted for 10 good days. Prince Abdul Mateen the 10th child and the fourth son of Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah who was once described as one of Asia’s most eligible bachelors, married young Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah(the daughter of a royal adviser). Their wedding ceremony started on the 7th of January.
The event was attended by heads of state and royals from Bhutan and Middle Eastern countries. Some notable guests that were at the wedding included Malaysia’s Anwar Ibrahim, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and royals from the Middle East. The newlyweds made their first public procession down the streets of Brunei’s capital on the eighth day of the celebrations.
The Islamic solemnisation ceremony was held inside the gold-domed Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
The pomp and pageantry of the royal extravaganza highlight the tiny country’s extreme wealth, which is almost entirely derived from its enormous oil reserves.
