EDUCATION MINISTRY ACTION AGAINST EXAM MALPRACTICES

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education in Ghana, has made several statements regarding examination malpractices in the country. He announced that Ghana is winning the war against examination malpractices with the introduction of serialization by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in all examinations organized by them.

The new approach involves the serialization of the same examination questions such that different students in the same exams hall might have ten different versions of the same paper, making it very difficult to cheat. This strategy was implemented in the recently completed Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), and there are plans to extend this system to all examinations organized by the WAEC.

Dr. Adutwum believes that this measure will improve the reputation and credibility of WAEC, as the fairness of the examination would compel students to study hard since they would not have any hope of cheating during the exams. He also mentioned plans to meet all Education Ministers in the West African regions to decide on the extension of the serialization system
